Permanent Protection

After several years of planning and innovation, Colorado Water Trust has permanently protected Jasper Lake and its waters in the Indian Peaks Wilderness!

100 Million Gallons Restored

This project tripled Boulder Creek’s flows in September 2024, ensuring healthier ecosystems and sustained water availability.

37 Miles Protected

This project protects public access to the beloved lake, as well as its water as it flows down 37 miles of Boulder Creek.

Multi-Benefit Approach

Safeguarding the region’s water resources from development pressures while maintaining public access, healthy flows in rivers, and agricultural sustainability.

Project History

Colorado Water Trust accepted the donation of Jasper Lake from an anonymous donor in the summer of 2024. Colorado Water Trust then transferred ownership of the lake to the Tiefel family – a local family with agricultural ties downstream in Lafayette. The transfer of ownership included the placement of a permanent set of restrictive covenants and an easement that protect public access and ensure environmental benefits in perpetuity. The collaboration between Colorado Water Trust and the Tiefel family exemplifies a multi-benefit approach to water management, safeguarding the region’s water resources from development pressures while maintaining public access, healthy flows in rivers, and agricultural sustainability.
